STEP 13 - EXERTION

broken image

Head tension due to exertion usually happens quickly during or after intense physical activity and is generally of short duration (a few minutes to an hour).

Weight lifting, running, and sexual intercourse can all be triggers.

The result is generalized head discomfort due to physical activity, causing an increased blood flow to the skull.

Although the head tension should resolve once the physical exertion stops (or soon after), you can also help yourself feel better sooner by using Essential Oils to help support the body as it exercises.

Two types of oils are important here: Essential Oils that support the respiratory system can promote oxygen uptake by the lungs; while relaxing and calming Essential Oils can soothe feelings of pressure in the head and relax the blood vessels.

Essential Oils that support the respiratory system and also have a soothing effect on the muscles include:

  • Siberian Fir

  • Eucalyptus

  • Rosemary

  •  Douglas Fir

  • Peppermint

  • Black Pepper

SIBERIAN FIR has the finest aroma of all the fir oils and its refreshing, woody scent is calming and relaxing both to the mind and to the body. This is due to its main chemical constituent, bornyl acetate, a part of the ester family, which are chemical compounds that relax, soothe, and calm.

SIBERIAN FIR promotes feelings of clear breathing and is an excellent Essential Oil to use before, during, or after strenuous activity.

PRACTICAL USES

• After strenuous activity, massage into skin for soothing comfort.

• When working through difficult circumstances at home, work, or school, diffuse SIBERIAN FIR to help reduce stress.

• Apply topically to skin to help soothe minor skin irritations.

• Inhale deeply and experience the refreshing aroma.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

DIFFUSION: Use three to four drops in the diffuser of your choice.

INTERNAL USE: Dilute one drop in 4 fl. oz. of liquid.

TOPICAL USE: Apply one to two drops to desired area. Dilute with a carrier oil to minimize any skin sensitivity. See additional precautions below.
