STEP 18 - SEVERE EPISODIC HEAD TENSION

Severe episodic head tension affects more and more people each year and is felt as an intense pulsing from deep within the head. These episodes are usually one-sided, throbbing, and can also be accompanied by visual disturbances and sensitivity to light, smell, and sound. Nausea and vomiting can also occur.

People who have visual disturbances can experience them before the head tension is felt. Also known as an “aura,” this effect may cause people to see flashing or shimmering lights, zigzag lines, stars, and blind spots.

Severe episodic head tension can last from one day, to three or four days, and can happen to people of all ages, from teenage years, onward. There can be many triggers for this type of head tension, including dehydration, certain foods, hormone fluctuations, environmental changes, sleep disruption, certain medications, strenuous exercise, and exposure to chemicals.

This type of head tension can sometimes run in the family, and women are more likely to experience it than men. Essential Oils can be very beneficial when used to help with this type of head tension, especially if the oils can be used before the head tension has become severe in its intensity.
